Benefit for Crystle Dougherty

The Benefit for Crystle Dougherty is coming up Saturday, July 15th and is inviting you to come and support one another in this time of need. This event will be hosted by Forever Jen Memorial Run, Inc. and will take place at the Arco Fire Hall from 5:00-7:00 PM. It is a FREE WILL DONATION and all proceeds will be donated to Crystle Dougherty. They will be serving burgers, fries, and brownie sundaes.

In July of 2018 Crystle went in for her first mammogram and an annual physical. About a week later the doctor requested additional tests and ten referred her to Sioux Falls for an ultrasound guided biopsy due to an area that was deemed suspicious in her breast/auxiliary area. On August 15, 2018, she was given the news that she had Invasive Intralobular Breast Cancer. Crystle proceeded to have a PET scan to determine what stage of cancer she had. This unfortunately would change the trajectory of her life. The scan showed the cancer not only was in her left breast but also throughout her spine and other areas in her skeleton. Due to this fact she was considered at Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer which is incurable. For the next four and a half years, Crystal endured several oral chemotherapies, hormone blocking injections, bone strengthening infusions, and radiation which came with side effects, illnesses and hospital stays.

As of December of 2022, Crystle made the decision to take quality of life over quantity and stopped all treatments. In May of 2023, doctors informed her the cancer had spread to her liver as well and she had 4 to 6 months to a year of life left.

Crystle is currently in Home Hospice care, taking each day one at a time and cherishing the moments with family and friends.
