Elmer “Spike” Ufken, age 98, of Marshall, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.  Due to the pandemic, private Funeral Services will take place Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.  Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, any memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choosing, in Spike’s honor.

 Elmer George Ufken was born on July 27, 1922, to parents Anthony and Gerda (Moritz) Ufken in Marshall.  He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall and attended school in Lynd.  After graduating from Lynd High School, Spike helped his parents on the family farm.  On October 12, 1947, Elmer was united in marriage to Carole Youngquist in Marshall and they made their home on the farm Southwest of Marshall until 1966.  After farming, the couple moved into Marshall and Spike then worked for the State of Minnesota with the Highway Department.  He retired in 1987.  Spike’s enjoyments in life included fishing, playing pool, golfing, softball, and he was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.  He died on November 5, 2020, in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, at the age of 98 years, 3 months, and 9 days.  Blessed be his memory.

 He is survived by his 2 sons, Gregory (Lori) Ufken of Rosemount, Randall (Nancy) Ufken of Prior Lake; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Spike was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carole Ufken; daughter-in-law, Cassie Ufken; brother, Ed Ufken; and sister, Ethyl McLain.
