Edward J. Nuteson, age 87, of Gary, SD, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary, SD with Rev. Bruce Mueller officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Grandview Cemetery, Gary, SD. Visitation will Saturday, July 29th one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Edward James Nuteson was born at home on the family farm on November 18, 1935 in Gary, South Dakota to parents Seffird and Martha (Gronning) Nuteson. He was raised on a farm north of Gary and attended school in Gary. Edward served his country in the Army and was stationed in Korea after the war ended. Returning home, he moved to the Twin Cities and worked in construction. Edward was united in marriage to LaVonne (Weitzel) Nuteson on September 2, 1961 in Bayport, MN. At the age of 57, he and LaVonne moved to Gary, SD to return to his love of farming. He was a member of the Gary Legion and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gary. Edward passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 2 days.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Carol) Nuteson, daughter, Carol (Joe) Stramer; grandchildren: Amanda (Marcus) Machin, Joshua (Melissa) Nuteson, Jacob (Paul) Stramer, Devon Nuteson; great-grandchildren, Skyler and Landon Nuteson; and sister, Geri Schilling. He was preceded in death by his loving wife LaVonne Nuteson; parents, Seffird and Martha (Gronning) Nuteson; three brothers and seven sisters.
