Dorothy Gilb, age 97, of Marshall, Minnesota, died with family at her side on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Prairie Home Hospice – McLaughlin House in Marshall. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following a reception, interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery near Wood Lake, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will then continue one hour prior to her service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., on Friday, at the church. The Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall is handling the arrangements.
Dorothy Ann House was born on March 29, 1926, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Vernon and Elda (Timm) House. Dorothy was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake and later confirmed in her youth at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township, Minnesota. After attending parochial school, she graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1944. Soon thereafter Dorothy met Mr. Raymond Jamieson at a local dance. On January 26, 1947, Dorothy and Ray were united in marriage at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church and to this union five children were born. They spent 22 years of marriage together prior to Ray’s death in October of 1969. Dorothy continued to live in Wood Lake until 1978 when she met and then married Mr. Gordon Gilb. The couple made their home on a farm near Marshall and spent 25 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 2003. Dorothy initially started working various jobs in Redwood Falls and Wood Lake. Once her family started to grow, Dorothy stayed at home to care for her children and take care of the home. In retirement she found another career working as a greeter at the Marshall Walmart which sparked many friendships with coworkers that lasted for years. Dorothy was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Her other interests included crocheting, embroidery, painting, baking, and tending to her many flower gardens. She always had a heart for her children and was constantly looking for ways to help them out. She enjoyed entertaining family members and other longtime friends and planned many slumber parties with the Walmart crew.
Dorothy Gilb died surrounded by her family on Friday, June 9, 2023. She had reached the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 11 days. Blessed be her memory.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Shirley (and Doc) Slettedahl of Watertown, SD, Jeff (and Joann) Jamieson of Houston, TX, Laurie (and Bob) Knutson of Wood Lake, Wendy Jamieson of Marshall; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Jamieson of Saint Croix Falls, WI; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (and Rick) Jones of WI, Stacie (and Jason) Stanton of SD, Brett (and Shannon) Knutson of FL, Ryan (and Sarah) Jamieson of WI, Tony Slettedahl of SD, Chad (and Cynthia) Jamieson of TX, Shaun (and Jocelyn) Knutson of CO, Ann (and Kevin) Jacobsma of SD, Sara (and Trent) Sherman of TX, Raymond Hankins of MN, Trista Knutson of MN; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Elda House; husbands, Raymond Jamieson, Gordon Gilb; son, Tom Jamieson; brother, Douglas House; and sisters, Verlaine Schlemmer and Frances Kvam.
