The funeral service for Doris Meier, 85, of Vesta, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the service at the Vesta Cemetery.

Doris Darlene (Gladitsch) Meier was born at home on the family farm near Vesta on July 14, 1938, to Lester and Martha (Gollmer) Gladitsch.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.  Doris attended country school District 82 and graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1956.  On December 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Alvin Meier at St. John’s.  The couple made their home and raised their family in Vesta and Doris worked at the Vesta Café for 40 years, retiring in May of 2011.  She enjoyed collecting angels, playing cards, baking and doing word finds.  She also enjoyed embroidering dish towels, pillow cases or runners and crocheting blankets.  Doris enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Doris died on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

She is survived by her daughter Linda (Warren) Kolander of Vesta, son Al Meier of Vesta, daughter-in-law Stacy Meier of Cottonwood; grandchildren Jacob Kolander (Noah) of Waconia, Justin (Angel) Kolander of Vesta, Andrew Kolander (Shelby) of Hanley Falls, Ashley (Sam) Schmidt of Vesta, Amanda (Brent) Slingsby of North Mankato, Jeff (Brittney) Meier of Ct Henrico, VA, Heather Meier (Joe) of Cottonwood, Brayden Meier of Marshall, Blayne Meier (Cheyenne) of Pipestone, Bryler Meier of Cottonwood, Brynlee Meier of Clarkfield, Stephanie Popowski of Mankato, Brianna Edmundson (Tim) of Amiret; 23 great-grandchildren; sister Joan (Rod) Rasmussen of Shakopee; sister-in-law Karen (Ernie) Bohnet of Florence, AZ; Aunts Darlene Gladitsch of Marshall, Betty Paul of Albert lea and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, son David Meier, sister Lavonne Gladitsch, brothers LeeRoy and James, brothers-in-law Lyle and John Meier and sister-in-law Doris Martensen.
