Donald “Don” A. Vermeire, age 85, of Tyler, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, Minnesota. A visitation will be on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler with a time of sharing at 6:45 PM and a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Church. Inurnment will be in the spring of 2022.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Tyler Chapel.

Donald A. Vermeire was born on October 27, 1936 to Frank and Mary (Dhaene) Vermeire on a farm in Eidsvold Township, Lyon County, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton MN. Don grew up and attended country school in Eidsvold township. Don helped his father on the family farm until his dad passed away in 1951. Don continued to farm there for one more year and then worked for Carl Swanson on a farm north of Minneota, MN. On February 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to Doris Thooft at St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler, MN. In 1959, they moved to a farm north of Tyler and while farming he also worked for Vern Foresyth shelling corn for many area farmers. In 1963 they purchased the home place where they farmed and raised six children.  In 1995 they left the family farm and moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked for Kruger Construction where he operated heavy equipment and drove gravel trucks for 19 years. In October of 2016, they moved back to Tyler. Don passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, MN, at the age of 85 years, three months, and 24 days.  He was a member of the St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he became a 4th degree Knight. He also served as clerk of Marshfield Township. In his younger years, he was a member of 4-H and took his prize beef to the State Fair where he earned many ribbons. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, dancing, an occasional stop at the casino, and spending time visiting his family. Don will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Doris (Thooft) Vermeire of Tyler; his children, Barb (Tony) Berkenpas of Marshall, MN, Glenda (Dan) Werkman of Tyler, Frank (Brenda) Vermeire, Yankton SD, Kim (Michele) Vermeire of Marshall, MN, Carol (Todd) Johnson of Russell, MN, and Colleen (Les) Houselog; brother, Dennis Vermeire; sister, Marlene Hoffman; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-dad; sisters, Elaine (Joe) Waltz, and MaryAnn (Ernie) Schnaar; and his brother, Richard Vermeire. Blessed be his memory.
