Donald E. Johnson, age 95, of Walnut Grove passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22nd at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Interment is in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Don was born August 3, 1930 in Tracy, MN to Anton & Ida (Shori) Johnson.  In 1948, Don graduated from Walnut Grove High School and enlisted in the National Guard.  He was stationed at Camp Rucker in Alabama.  He received his honorable discharge on November 21, 1951.  He returned to Walnut Grove where he helped his father with the family farm North of Walnut Grove.  On May 12, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Judy Anderson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  Together the couple made their home on the Johnson family farm.  Don had a very strong work ethic, and would help anyone in need.  Don and Judy ran the concession stand at the pageant for many years.  He was a longtime member of English Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Church Council and as a Luther League Advisor.  He also served the community in numerous ways.  He was on the City Council, EDA Board, and was active in the Walnut Grove American Legion.  In his rare spare time, Don enjoyed camping and trips to Alaska and the Black Hills.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Don is survived by his children: David (Lorri Ann) Johnson of Woodbury, Lori Johnson of Walnut Grove and Greg Johnson (Elliott Kroeker) of Bloomington; granddaughters: Brooke Bock, Laura Cermak & Soni (Carl) Nyquist; great grandchildren: Julia, Jenna, Jada & Noah Schmidt, Mckenzie, Gabriella & Natalie Bock, and Isabelle, Otto, Skye, Sven & Thea Nyquist; sister Evonne (Gene) Phillippe of Hatfield; brothers  and sisters-in-law: Joann Johnson of Rochester, Wayne (Connie) Anderson of Tracy, Sandy Anderson of Revere, Dee (Brian) Skalbeck of Mound & Barb (Walt) Boyd of Elijay, GA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, brothers Doug (Sharon) & Dennis Johnson, brother-in-law Kenny Anderson, nephew Chad Anderson, & mother and father-in-law Val & Eunice Anderson.
