Donald Leroy Edblom was born October 17, 1956, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the son of Marvin and Roxanne (Hinkle) Edblom. He grew up in Beresford, South Dakota, and then moved with his family to a farm outside Chokio, Minnesota. He was baptized as an infant at the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in Beresford (SD) and was later confirmed in his youth at the Pepperton Methodist Church in rural Alberta (MN). Don worked for 45 years at Alter Metal Recycling where he served in nearly every role, finishing as manager before his retirement this past November. Don was a dedicated civic leader, serving on many city boards and commissions, and he was a past member of the Marshall City Council for eight years. Don was recently re-elected to represent Marshall’s ward one. Don was also active in the DFL political party. Don’s enjoyments in life included following all Minnesota sports teams, golfing, geography and math, road trips and campfires – particularly in the Black Hills. He was involved at the Breezy Shores Resort in Detroit Lakes where he served on the board and enjoyed many fishing trips there. In his downtime, Don could often be found enjoying a Jack and Coke or a good cigar.
