Richard Allen “Dick” Mickelson age 83 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Tracy, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Tracy Area Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment is in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dick was born October 12, 1941 at home in Holly Township, Murray County, MN to Ernest & Ruby (Shaw) Mickelson. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Dick played baseball in the European League. He played games in Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands. After receiving his honorable discharge, Dick lived in the Twin Cities where he met Jan Kampsen. Dick and Jan were married August 20, 1963. Together they lived in Minnetonka and Hutchinson before moving to Tracy in 1970. Dick played baseball for the Tracy Engineers and softball for the Breezy Point Bombers. He was a part of the Army National Guard for 20 years. Dick and Jan owned Mick’s Eastside, a local favorite for cards and fun. Together they spent several summers in Bozeman, MT and several winters in Bullhead City, AZ. They moved to Alexandria, MN in 2002. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved taking his family camping every weekend. Dick loved the MN Vikings and Twins. Like most of the Mickelson men, Dick was known for his quick, keen wit and giving everyone nicknames. He had a great sense of humor and loved having fun, playing cards and pull tabs, and having his family around him.

Dick is survived by his wife Jan of 62 years; children: Kim (Mark) Mickelson, Amy (Jim) Milinkovich, Steve (Renee) Mickelson and Deb (Dennis) Campbell; grandchildren: Brandon DeVetter, Chanel DeVetter Shapiro, Tyler Kotek, Tanner Milinkovich, Abby (Tyler) Sticha, Jacob (Emilee) Milinkovich, Jared (Abby) Milinkovich, Brooke (Travis) Voss, Quincy (Mitchell) Preusse, Ryan (Carrie) Quinn, Lacey (Levi) Fultz, Corey (Victoria) Paul, Brandy, Jager & Jayden Campbell; great grandchildren: Kinley, Annabelle, Hank, Everly, Lane, Declan, Murphy, Aubree, Bennett, Boyer & Kellen; brother Jerome Mickelson and sister Marilyn Hansen; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Bev (Jack) Adams, brothers Roger (Annamae), Duane “Sam” (Donna) and Merle, sisters-in-law Judy Mickelson and Shirley Von Wahlde and brothers-in-law Bernard Kampsen and Richard Hansen.
