Deloris Richards, age 86, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, Minnesota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Grace Life Church in Marshall, Minnesota. A reception for attendees will follow, right at the church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Grace Life Church in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to her celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, again at the church.
Deloris Gail Christensen was born in Sodus Township, near Marshall, Minnesota, on September 22, 1940. She was the daughter of Harris and Virginia (Petersen) Christensen. Deloris graduated from Lynd High School in 1958 and went on to work at various places such as Raines Café, Bulowski Drug, Klein Drug, Bremer Bank, Marshall Foods, and Farm Service Agency. On June 25, 1960, Deloris was united in marriage to Dick Richards at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in town until 1970 before moving to their current farm just outside of Marshall. They raised two sons and spent over 65 years of marriage together before Dick died last year. Deloris spent over 20 years as an administrative assistant working with Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). But her true passion was serving others through volunteering. She devoted countess hours to the Lyon County Fair Board, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign, Hospice, Big Buddies, and her church. Dick and Deloris managed quarter horse shows in Windom where they were awarded top honors and were inducted into the Minnesota Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame. The couple was also active in the Saddle Club and participated with the Southwest Trail Riders. She was an animal lover and spent time tending to her flower garden.
Deloris Richards died peacefully on September 25, 2026, just 3 days after her 86th birthday. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Bob (and Robin) Richards of Marshall, Tom (and Lori) Richards of Valley Springs, SD; 4 grandchildren, Justin (and Brooke) Richards, Kristin Richards, Nicholas Richards, Michael Richards; 5 great-grandchildren, Kash, Knox, Krosby, Kambry, Kentley; siblings, Cheryl (and Larry) Stechmann of Baxter, Dannie (and Linda) Christensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy (and Jim) VanDenBroeke of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Virginia Christensen; husband, Dick Richards; and brothers, Ronald Christensen and Michael Christensen.
