Bruce Larson 48 of Balaton, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, as the result of a farming accident in rural Balaton, MN. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Tru Shirmp Gym (the old Balaton High School) in Balaton, MN at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Tru Shirmp building in Balaton from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services on Monday. Interment will be at Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery rural Balaton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.
Bruce Larson was born on June 25, 1975, in Marshall, Minnesota to Stanley and Jean Miller Larson. He grew up on the family farm near Balaton, MN and graduated from Balaton High School in 1993. Bruce took a job working for Foslien Harvesting before attending SDSU in Brookings graduating in 1997 with an Agriculture Degree. Following graduation Bruce returned to the family farm where he farmed with his father, worked for L&C Construction and later Balaton Construction. On March 4, 2004, he and Sara Dahl were married in Sarasota, FL. They made their home on the farm near Balaton. They later divorced. While farming Bruce drove truck for Runnings and was a Titan Pro dealer. Bruce was always there when help was needed. Bruce passed away as the result of a farming accident near Balaton on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 48. He was an active member of Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton. He served on the Church Board, Cemetery Board and as a Luther League Leader. Bruce also was active with 4-H, Hadley Elevator Board, Skandia Township Board, Balaton Area Community Foundation, and the Balaton Sportsman Club. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews, traveling, ice fishing, Sunday Fun Days on the pontoon, boating, attending his nieces and nephew’s activities and sports, and being with his friends. Bruce was known for his generosity and care for others. His final act of giving was of himself by being a tissue donation.
Survivors include his parents, Stan and Jean Larson of Garvin, MN, four siblings, and their spouses, Carol and Brian Wixon of Marshall, MN, Bryan Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Joshua Hunt of New London, MN, and Brian and Abby Adams of Balaton, MN, seven nieces and nephews, Kailey, Brayden and Brody Wixon, Shea Larson, Skylar Hunt, and Allie and Jackson Adams, one great niece, Blakeleigh Hunt and his paternal grandmother, Joyce Larson of Edgerton, MN, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alvin Larson, and his Maternal grandparents, Vernon and Rosella Miller.
