Barbara Christion, age 70, of Ivanhoe, MN passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. Visitation will be 5 – 7 pm with a 7 pm Prayer service and Rosary to follow on Wednesday, January 11th at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. Burial will be held at a later date. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.
Barbara Joyce (Serreyn) Poss-Christion was born on September 18th 1952 in Tyler, MN to Audrey (Johnson) and Elmer Serreyn and grew up on a farm near Ivanhoe MN. She loved learning in school and playing outside with her eight siblings. She had many stories of her childhood that she shared regularly with her children and grandchildren. Barbara spent most of her adult life raising her four children and working in insurance in South Dakota. She worked hard at both and prided herself at achieving goals that were both large and small. She was the loudest cheerleader in the crowd when attending events for her children and grandchildren. We will forever remember what she shouted out to let her loved ones know she was there celebrating them. Barbara spent her whole life a fan of Minnesota sports teams, her favorite being Viking’s football. Whether it was when she attended the games in person when she had season tickets or from the comfort of her home, the team was going to hear her cheering them along. She also loved spending time at the lake with family and friends. She owned a lake home for many years. She was often there working on projects or spending the day boating, cooking on the grill, and enjoying the campfire with all who would visit with her. Later in life she added extra love to her life through her little dogs Jaxon and Harley. Barbara loved her hometown community and later in life chose to return there to retire and participate in many local events, committees, and volunteering opportunities. She channeled her positive energy into helping others and stayed busy up until her last day.
Barbara Poss-Christion (Serreyn) of Ivanhoe, MN, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on January 8, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at age 70 years, 3 months and 21 days.
She leaves behind her four children: Michael (Dawn) Poss, Tricia Zimmer, Shelly (Jeff) Poss-Hahn, and Ryan Poss; her six grandsons: Stephen Zimmer, Bradley Poss, Derek Poss, Jacob Zimmer, Nathan Poss, and Andrew Poss; and her eight siblings: Marlys Roskens, Lonny (Barbara) Serreyn, Roger Serreyn, Joann (George) Berger Frankenberry, Lois (Mark) Verhelst, Linda (Les) Blegen, Duane (Kim) Steffes, and Amy (Kevin) Raether. She will be missed by her family, friends, the community, and her little dog Harley. She is preceded in death by her parents: Audrey (Johnson) and Elmer Serreyn; stepfather: Roy Steffes and her two husbands: David Poss and John Christion; in-laws: Bob Roskens, Dick Berger.
