The Flute and Harp Duo of Linda Chatterton and Rachel Brandwein will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 12th in the Fine Arts Theatre at Southwest Minnesota State University. The performance is free and open to the public. (In order to protect the health and safety of the performers, our students and faculty, and of the community at large, masking is required on the campus of SMSU. Concert attendees will be required to be masked.)

Flutist Linda Chatterton and harpist Rachel Brandwein have been performing together since 2013. Their collaboration has included concert tours in the US and the Far East, including a 2020-21 Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Tour grant to present concert and educational residencies in four greater Minnesota communities. This concert includes the world premiere of Rachel Brandwein’s “Minnesota City Sketches” for flute and harp, inspired by each of the four communities. Their repertoire encompasses traditional concert repertoire for flute and harp, their own arrangements for flute and harp of classical, folk and contemporary works, and new works written for them.

Ms. Chatterton has performed in New York at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, was a featured recitalist on the prestigious Dame Myra Hess series in Chicago, and has been heard throughout the US many times on National Public Radio’s Performance Today. A Minneapolis-based artist, Ms. Chatterton has performed with numerous groups including the Minnesota Orchestra, and she tours regularly as a duo performer with harp, guitar and piano. As a concerto soloist, highlights include many performances of traditional and contemporary repertoire in the US and Europe. She has served as a US State Department Arts Ambassador overseas.

Harpist Rachel Brandwein is winner of the 2014 Mu Phi Epsilon International Solo Competition and has performed concerts nationally from 2014-2016 as a representative of Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity. Among her performance and composition accomplishments are first prizes and grants in numerous regional and national competitions sponsored by the American Harp Society, American String Teachers Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. It is co-sponsored by the Southwest Minnesota State University Music Program as part of their efforts to bring high quality musical opportunities to the region.
