Dennis “Rope” Roper, age 73, of Morton, MN, passed away on Friday April 18, 2025 surrounded by his family at his home in Morton, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Zion Lutheran church in Morton, with burial to follow at the Morton City Cemetery, with full Fire Department Honors. A visitation will be held on Friday April 25, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church in Morton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to his service from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Centra Care Redwood Falls Hospice. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Services of Redwood Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Dennis “Denny” H. Roper was a well-known figure and very dedicated to the town of Morton. He was born in Redwood Falls on May 5, 1951. He grew up on the family farm in Beaver Falls township. Where he was known for his hard work and always helping other neighboring farmers. Denny was united in marriage to Bev Dallenbach on December 16th, 1978. They were married for 46 years and had two children. They were blessed with two girls, Brandee and Shelby. Denny graduated from Morton High School in 1969. He moved to town and worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was passionate about his work and well known for his excellent carpentry skills. Denny would work long hours and in all weather conditions, always making sure the job was done. Denny was an avid sports fan and would follow local, collegiate and professional teams in Minnesota. Denny was never shy in sharing his opinion of the job the referees were doing. Denny was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Morton for over 20 years. During that time, he served many roles and was fire chief for many years. Denny really enjoyed spending time with his family. Denny could be found in his man cave where he always had some cold beers in the fridge, vinyl spinning and a ball game on. Denny was also an avid outdoorsman and really enjoyed fishing and hunting. Denny was very proud of the big Walley he caught at the Morton boat landing weighing in at over 12lbs.
Denny is survived by his wife, Bev of Morton; daughters, Brandee (Andy) Frank and Shelby (Joey) Gresch both of Shakopee; 5 grandchildren, Josephine, Gracie, Hattie, Samantha, and Jacob; sister, Nancy Zempel; brother, Dick Dennyr, brother- in-law, Mike Dallenabach; sister in-laws Linda Larson, Vickie Dallenbach and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Roper, brother in-law, Terry Dallenach, brother in-law Gerald Zempel, and sister in-law Judy Roper.
