Clarence “Chris” Hoversten, age 101, of Hendricks and formerly of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the Hendricks Community Hospital, Minnesota.  Memorial Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minnesota.  A light reception will follow. Interment will be at a later date in the Hemnes Lutheran Cemetery, Minneota.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the church.

Clarence Theodore Hoversten was born on February 13, 1918, to Elias and Martha (Johannes) Hoversten, in Island Lake Township, Lyon County, Minnesota.  He was baptized and confirmed at Hemnes Lutheran Church in Minneota.  Chris attended country school, District 62, and then graduated from Minneota High School with the class of 1934.  He went on to graduate from Augsburg College.  He then taught for a year in Hanley Falls, Minnesota, where he met fellow teacher, Marguerite Haster.

On March 29, 1942, Chris and Marguerite were united in marriage in Crosby, Minnesota.  While raising 3 children, the couple made their home in Hanley Falls, St. Paul, Westminster (MD), Waukesha (WI), Longmont (CO), Lebanon (ID), Chicago, Savanah (GA), Lakeville, and finally Marshall in 2003.  Chris worked for 3M, spending his whole career in their national advertising branch, working on outdoor advertising products.  Chris retired in 1987.  The couple spent nearly 63 years of marriage together before Marguerite passed away in February of 2005.  Soon thereafter, Chris moved to Hendricks.

Chris was always civic-minded, a member of Kiwanis and the Masonic Lodge, and served as volunteer director for the Royce Learning Center in Savanah, Georgia.  He enjoyed golfing, playing the Stock Market, going to service club events and spending time with his family and friends.

Clarence Hoversten entered his Heavenly home on November 6, 2019.  He reached the age of 101 years, 9 months, and 24 days.  Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by his children, Glen Hoversten of Eugene, OR, Janet (and Jim) Erickson of Redmond, OR, Paul Hoversten of Lynd; 9 grandchildren, Krista (and Mike) Takas, Erik Hoversten, Seth (and Anita) Erickson, Lucas (and Anicia) Erickson, Cy Erickson, Elias (and Cassie) Hoversten, Emma Lynn Hoversten, Ruth Ann Hoversten, Joseph Hoversten; 5 great-grandchildren, Mathias, Elliana, Rylea, Delos, Emmie; siblings, Bernice Digre of Prior Lake, Garfield Hoversten of Edina, Kermit (and Ruth) Hoversten of Austin, Vincent (and Marge) Hoversten of San Rafael, CA former daughters-in-law, Mary Hoversten of Ann Arbor, MI, Jody Anderson of Tracy, Ann Hoversten of Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Martha Hoversten; wife, Marguerite Hoversten; and 9 siblings.
