Patricia “Patti” A. Scharfencamp, age 74, of Franklin, MN, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family in Franklin. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, from St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan, with burial to follow in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 4-7pm at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 at the church. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls and Morgan are in charge of the arrangements.
Patti, the daughter of Arnold and Roseann (Dommer) Hopp, was born on November 10, 1949 in Redwood Falls. Patti graduated from Franklin High School and also attended Ridgewater College to further her knowledge and skills. On November 30, 1974, Patti married Gene F. Scharfencamp at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. After their marriage, they settled in Franklin and raised their family. Patti had a fulfilling career as a assembly line worker and buyer for RVI (formerly Zytec, formerly Control Data) and retired in March of 2022. Patti also did banquets at Jackpot Junction. She was known for her dedication and hard work throughout her career. Patti had a variety of hobbies and interests. She had a deep love for hummingbirds and spent her summers cleaning and refilling multiple feeders hung around the deck and yard. Patti also enjoyed tending to flowers, especially roses and calla lilies. Sports played a significant role in Patti’s life as she passionately followed the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Nascar. However, nothing brought her more joy than watching her grandchildren participate in various activities such as T-ball, baseball, hockey, football, and gymnastics. Patti also cherished traveling in the RV to attend rodeos and concerts. One of her favorite artists was George Strait. Patti was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin for most of her life until the church closure. Following that, she became a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Patti served as a Sunday School Teacher, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and CCW member. She displayed immense dedication to her faith community. Patti’s warm presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind fond memories with everyone she encountered during her lifetime.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Roseann Hopp and two brothers, Arnold “Dean” and Charles Hopp. Patti is survived by her loving husband, Gene Scharfencamp of Franklin; son, Curt (Jen) Scharfencamp of Franklin; daughter, Sara Scharfencamp of Franklin; grandchildren, Jack, Caleb, Eliza, Evan and Jameson; brother, John “Rabbit” (Linda) Hopp of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her family and friends were a source of great joy and comfort to Patti throughout her life.
Patricia “Patti” Ann Scharfencamp touched the hearts of many with her kindness, love for her family, and dedication to her community. She will forever be remembered for her warm smile and genuine care for others. May she rest in peace knowing that she has left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
