Leona A. Christianson, age 100, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Hendricks Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks. Burial will be in the East Hendricks Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service on Monday, September 30, 2019 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks and will resume Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Leona Albertha Christianson was born December 30, 1918 on the farm in Hansonville Township, north of Hendricks, MN to Albert and Anna (Natvig) Christianson. She was baptized in the Hansonville Church and confirmed at Marble Lutheran Church on October 29, 1933.

Leona was united in marriage to Coney Christianson on April 4, 1941. The couple lived and farmed near Hendricks where they raised their family. Leona was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Hendricks, candling eggs and worked at Don’s Bakery. Coney Christianson passed away in 1987. Leona remained in Hendricks and later became a resident of the Hendricks Nursing Home. Leona passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the age of 100 years, 9 months and 25 days.

Leona was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks and served on the Ladies Aid. She remained very active in the community serving in many capacities in the Senior Citizens Center, on Site Council, Hospital Auxiliary, Council on Aging, American Legion Auxiliary, was a Senior companion and One the One Program at the nursing home visiting with nursing home residents. Leona was also a Pioneer Pal at the Calvary Church. She loved to embroider, piece and stitch quilts and was a cookie lady and made cream pies and pickles, which she gave as gifts to many.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Roger (Karen) Christianson, Hendricks, MN, Raymond (Rita) Christianson, Sussex, WI and Linda (Wally) Plageman, Canby, MN; 8 grandchildren: 15 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband Coney; brother Earl; sister Margaret Swonke and a grandson Cody.
