Charles Caswell, age 92 of Westbrook, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at his home. Interment will be at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook in Summer 2024. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charles Wallace Caswell was born September 12, 1931 to Sever “Ted” and Marion (Edwards) Caswell in Drayton, ND. He was baptized in Drayton in April 1934. Charles grew up on a farm outside of Grafton, ND where he was raised by Aunt Gladys and Uncle Ray Chester. He went to Grafton Country School and worked on the family farm. He continued his education at Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. In November 1950, at age 19, Charles joined the U. S. Navy and served with the Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron 52. In 1954, following his service to his country, Charles moved to CA where he worked for General Motors, Todd Shipyard and Bell Telephone. Then he moved back to ND to drive truck. In 1960, he moved to Westbrook, MN where he was introduced to Lynda Klasse by his sister Teddy. Charles and Lynda were united in marriage at The Little Brown Church in IA on June 7, 1964. In Westbrook, Charles continued as an Independent Owner-Operator until he retired in 2016 at 85 years of age. At that time, he began driving for Western Community Action, retiring in 2022. In his younger years, Charles enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, boating and skiing. He taught all the young relatives to ski. In his later years, driving, reading and talking about classic cars, trucks and ships became his favorite pastimes.
Charles is survived by his children: Toni Lee Johnson (Jim Tuck) of Costa Mesa, CA, Mark of Waco, TX, Scott of Westbrook, Lynn (Mauricio) Lopez of Philadelphia, PA, & Paul (Becky) of Spencer, IA; grandchildren: AJ, Scott, Gage (Kali), Charlize & Olivia; great-grandson Ben; sister Luann (Dennis) Vanderploeg of O’Fallon, MO; and brother-in-law Robert Bunting of Westbrook. He is preceded in death by his parents Ted & Marion, wife Lynda, sisters: Shirley (Vandell) Anderson, Teddy Bunting, & Janet (Arvin) Cohrs; nephews: Marty, Terry & Kerry Anderson, and grandson Chase Caswell.
