Barbara Jo Desmedt was born on September 12, 1958, in Marshall, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Cyriel and Kathy (Kor) Desmedt. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith that Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall. She grew up on the family farm in Lynd Township and attended school in Marshall. After graduating from Marshall High School with the class of 1977, Barbara then attended Canby Vo-Tech and became a dental assistant. She worked for Dr. Jim Milne and Dr. Paul Johnson for six years before her multiple sclerosis diagnosis worsened and prevented her from working. In the years to come Wild Rose and Touching Hearts staff cared deeply for her and took excellent care of her. They knew her so well that, simply by a look, they knew her needs before they were expressed.  Barb was united in marriage to Michael Dale of Lynd on September 30, 1978, and from this marriage two daughters were born: Jessica and Jenna. Barb’s greatest joy became time spent with her children and grandchildren as she dearly loved every one of them. One of her fondest memories was taking a cruise to the Bahamas with her sisters, Pat and Julie, and her PCA. She was able to be wheeled into the ocean so she could feel the sand and water between her toes. Barb also traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to visit one of her best friends, Carol. Barbara enjoyed shopping and going out with friends. She also very much enjoyed watching NASCAR, rooting for #24 (Jeff Gordon). She recalled a favorite childhood memory of neighborhood get-togethers where they would fish for bullheads and occasionally snag a northern – those days ended with a big fish fry.
