The funeral service for Erma Huso, 84, of Cottonwood, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood.  The Sunset Funeral & Cremations Association in Echo is handling the arrangements.

Erma Marie (Wells) Huso was born July 1, 1940, in Bertha, Todd County, Minnesota, to Nat and Mabel (Helms) Wells. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Federated Presbyterian Church of Marshall, on October 7, 1956. She graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1958 and worked at North Star Insurance Company of Cottonwood. Erma married Thomas M. Huso on February 11, 1961, at the Federated Church in Marshall. They had three children: Michael Thomas (Rhonda Heairet) of Cottonwood, Kay Charles (Chris) of Slayton, and Kathryn Ostendorf of Belize, Central America. They farmed until 1982 and then they owned and operated the Stop Lite Café in Marshall until 1992. She was later employed at Lyon County Extension service, Hy-Vee Foods, and Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood. She published the book “Our Family…Just Recipes and Memories” in 2001. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she served on the board of Deacons Women of the ELCA, served as President, secretary, and treasurer. She later joined Living Word Lutheran Church of Marshall. Erma was a proud member of Capt. Comfort Starr Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Vallers Extension Homemakers, U of M Master Gardeners, American Legion Auxiliary Post 530, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Vallers Goal Hunters 4-H leader.

Erma died on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood. She is survived by her three children, as well as 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Jeff) Bragg and son Alden, Kirbie Ziemke (Cody), Andrea Tedrick (Joey Dahlgren), Thomas W. Huso, Rachael Huso, Tajae Viaene (Seth Rasmussen) and son Desmond; two nephews, Kelly Wells and Stacy (Tamera) Wells of California. Preceded in death by husband, parents, and brother Willis Wells.
