MARSHALL — The candidate filing period for Minnesota’s 2024 state general election is now open, covering a range of offices from U.S. and state legislative seats to county commission and soil and water board positions. 

Key Dates 

  • Filing Period: For most federal, state, and county offices, the filing period runs through June 4. 
  • Municipal and School Board Elections: Filing period open from July 30 to August 13 (for those without primaries). 
  • Presidential Candidates: Major parties must file by August 30, and non-major parties by August 20. 

Notable Filings 

  • Minnesota House District 15A: Anthony Studemann (DFL) filed to challenge incumbent Chris Swedzinski (R-Ghent), who has received the Republican endorsement. 
  • Minnesota House District 21A: Incumbent Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne) filed for re-election. 

County Races 

Lincoln County: 

  • Commissioner Districts 1, 3, 5: Incumbents Corey Sik, Dean Nielsen, and Steve Hauswedell filed for re-election.

Redwood County: 

  • Commissioner Districts 1, 4, 5: Incumbents Rick Wakefield, Robert Van Hee, and David Forkrud filed for re-election.

Yellow Medicine County: 

  • Commissioner Districts 3, 5: Incumbent Mitch Kling filed for re-election.
