Funeral services have been set for Virgil Norgaard of Tyler who passed away at the age of 90 on March 12th, 2024 at the Avera Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27th at the Hartquist Funeral Home – Tyler Chapel.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Tyler Chapel.

Virgil Lee Norgaard was born on September 15, 1933, to Bill and Ethel (Larsen) Norgaard on the farm near Tyler, Minnesota.  He was raised on the dairy farm and graduated from the local High School in 1951.  He met Betty Gaudian and the two were married on June 17, 1956 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton, Minnesota.  They enjoyed dancing many nights away together.  Virgil was drafted into the United States Army but received an early honorable discharge and was able to return to the farm.  After raising their family and working many long years there, they sold the farm and moved into town.  In 2015, they became residents of the Danebod Village in Tyler.  Virgil was a member of First English Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed reading, hunting, and could commonly be found playing cards or visiting with “the guys” over a cup of coffee at the garage.  Virgil was a member of the American Legion A.C. Hansen Post 185.

On March 12, 2024, Virgil died peacefully at Avera Sunrise Manor in Tyler, Minnesota.

Virgil is remembered by his wife, Betty; children, Tammy Jo of Phoenix, Arizona and Terry Lee of Canby, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Jordan, Lexi, and Nikki Norgaard.  He was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Lana.
