The man who stole Dorothy’s ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz” has finally revealed why he did it.
The crook is a career criminal named Terry Martin. He lifted the shoes from the Judy Garland Museum in 2005. But NOT because he knew anything about their cultural significance.
Terry had never even seen the movie. A mob associate hired him to steal them so they could cash in on the RUBIES. He’d heard the shoes were insured for $1 million, so he assumed the gems were real.
They’re NOT, of course. They’re made of glass. After delivering the slippers to the guy who hired him, Terry retired from a life of crime.
But they were recovered in 2018, and Terry was charged with stealing them. He’ll be sentenced a week from today.
