Terry L. Yackley, age 73, of Canby, MN passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Fall, SD. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 5 – 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN.
Terry Lee Yackley was born May 13, 1948, to Arthur Jr. and Bernice (Gubrud) Yackley in Canby, Minnesota. Terry graduated from Canby High School in 1966. In 1968 he was inducted into the United States Army, after which he served in Germany as a Truck Master and acquired an education in drafting. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned to Canby, MN. He then joined his father in the contracting and excavating business, where he continued to operate under Yackley Digging for the rest of his life. Terry married his sweetheart Laurie (Wiest) Yackley on June 16, 1973. They were blessed with two daughters – Jennifer and Melanie. Terry was an avid outdoorsman, and he particularly enjoyed pheasant hunting and walleye fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time in the Del Clark Lake area with his dog Emma and his daughters. Terry was a member of the Canby Fire Department for 27 years and served in multiple roles, perhaps most remembered as a friend and mentor to his peers. Terry was a dedicated member of the Presbyterian Church his whole life. Terry led a life of service. He was a friend, mentor, and well-loved member of the Canby community,
Terry passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Terry is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Yackley (Ryan Evjen) of Minnetonka, MN, and Melanie Yackley of Golden Valley, MN; siblings Ramona (Yackley) Hennen of Mission Viejo, CA, Dean (Janet) Yackley of Fergus Falls, MN, and Jim Yackley of Montevideo, MN. Terry leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his dog Emma. Terry is preceded in death by his wife Laurie; his parents Arthur Yackley, Jr. and Bernice (Gubrud) Yackley; his sister-in-law, Ann (Lofthus) Yackley; and his brother-in-law Dennis Hennen.
Terry was a steward of nature. His spirit will live on in the wind, the sunrise, the sunset, the fields, and the streams. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
