SAINT PAUL – Tuesday, the Housing Finance and Policy Committee heard testimony on the Bring it Home Bill, authored by Rep. Michael Howard (DFL – Richfield), the committee’s chair, the bill would create a first in the nation state-based rental assistance program.
“Bring it Home is a bill that provides a solution that matches the scale of the problem Minnesotans are facing,” said Rep. Howard. “Evictions are on the rise, families are dealing with the crushing weight of housing insecurity, and the crisis is only worsening. This bill would do more to end homelessness than any other. This is the right time to dream big and provide a vision for Minnesota where everyone can afford their home.”
According to the Minnesota Housing Partnership’s 2021 State of the State’s Housing report, 43% of Minnesota renter households experience housing cost burden (paying more than 30% of their income on rent) and 22% experience severe housing cost burden (paying more than 50% of their income on rent).
