MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University will hold its 57th Commencement on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the R/A Facility on campus. 

A total of 384 undergraduate and graduate students will participate in the ceremony, out of 564 eligible graduates. Master’s degree recipients will receive their academic hoods as they cross the stage. 

The commencement address will be delivered by Ryan Martin, a 2002 SMSU alumnus, former Mustang wheelchair basketball standout, non-profit executive, adaptive sports director for the City University of New York, and former professional athlete. 

The Outstanding Senior Award will also be announced during the event. 

Doors to the R/A Facility open at 8:15 a.m., with guests encouraged to be seated by 9:50 a.m. The ceremony will be streamed live at https://www.smsu.edu/eventcenter/livestream.html and broadcast on Marshall’s cable systems: Spectrum Channel 188, Vast Channel 95, and digital channel 22. 

A reception for graduates and families will follow in the upper level of the Student Center. 

Preceding the main event, the International Sash and Nurse Pinning ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 9. International students will receive sashes representing their home countries, and RN to BSN graduates will receive commemorative nursing pins.
