Dustin Brau poses with the new Mustang Golden Ale
MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) has announced the release of Mustang Golden Ale, a beer brewed in collaboration with Brau Brothers Brewing Co. and its founder, SMSU alumnus Dustin Brau. A portion of the beer’s proceeds will go to SMSU, marking a partnership between the university, Brau Brewing, and Tall Grass Liquor in Marshall.
The project, which began in early 2024, was aimed at creating four distinct beers representing both the city of Marshall and SMSU. Eric Luther of Tall Grass Liquor, along with Dustin Brau and Jen Flowers, SMSU’s Director of Athletics, played key roles in bringing the initiative to life.
SMSU Director of Athletics, Jen Flowers said, “Mustang Golden Ale is the outcome of a unique and special partnership that highlights what makes SMSU special: the people! Our department is thrilled to have had the opportunity to see this idea come to life and we’re so excited for Mustang fans to enjoy this awesome beer. Dustin and his team at Brau, along with Eric and his team at Tall Grass, have worked diligently to get us to this point.”
Mustang Golden Ale will be available at Tall Grass Liquor starting Friday, October 11, and will be featured at SMSU’s Homecoming events on Saturday, October 12.
