SLEEPY EYE, MN — A semi-truck collided with a train Friday afternoon in Sleepy Eye, resulting in minor injuries and significant vehicle damage. 

The crash occurred around 2:13 p.m. on Friday, April 4th, at 24170 US Highway 14. According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, a 1996 International semi, driven by 24-year-old Robert Thomas Jewett of New Richland, was attempting to turn into a business when it was struck by a Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad train. 

The train was occupied by Jeffrey Alan Schafer, 56, and Thomas Herman Behsman, 57, both of Madison Lake. All involved were treated at the scene for minor injuries. 

The semi-truck and train sustained damage, while the attached Wilson grain trailer was totaled. 

Emergency responders included the Sleepy Eye Ambulance, Sleepy Eye Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. 

Authorities used the incident to remind drivers of railroad safety, urging caution, patience, and awareness at crossings.
