APPLETON (LEARFIELD)  —  A rural Appleton woman says she was shot in the arm with her own gun as she struggled with an intruder in her home Monday night.

The Swift County Sheriff’s Office says 48-year-old Kim Holthaus told officers she had seen a person on her outside security camera and went to grab her pistol.

When she turned around, a tall man grabbed the gun and they struggled.  The gun fired, hitting Holthaus in the forearm and the intruder fled the house.

She was treated and released at the hospital.  Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Monday night is asked to call authorities.
