Robert “Bob” Hayes, age 71, of Clear Lake, SD passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center ER.  Memorial service will be at 3:00p.m. on Saturday, March 2nd at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held at a later date at the Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake.  Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert Duane Hayes was born on May 1, 1952 in Clear Lake, South Dakota to Woodrow “Red” and Helen (Hansen) Hayes. Bob grew up in Brandt, SD and he graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1970. He furthered his education by attending vo-tech in Watertown, SD learning carpentry skills. Bob was employed at Tec-Ord in Clear Lake for many years until he started working for the Deuel School as a custodian. He later started driving bus for the Deuel School District until his passing.  Bob had many enjoyments in life from hunting and fishing to bowling, playing golf, baseball and throwing darts. He also enjoyed countless years of dancing and enjoyed coaching girls high school softball and also playing slow-pitch softball for many years. Gardening and canning was something that many people knew Bobby for, especially his “Bubba Beans”.  Bob was a member of Highland Lutheran Church and the local Pheasants Forever Chapter.

Bob passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center ER at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Grateful for having shared Bob’s life is his brother, Henry “Hank” Hayes of Cherokee, IA and numerous cousins and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Helen Hayes; his sister-in-law, Ruth Hayes and many of his aunts and uncles.
