Robert E. Briggs, age 84, of Canby, MN passed away from Leukemia on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby, MN. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery, Canby. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert Edward Briggs was born on August 31, 1936 on the family farm in Norman Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to Ralph and E. Margaret (Spanton) Briggs. He attended Canby Public Schools and graduated in 1954. Following his education, he worked with his father on the farm until entering the United States Army in 1957. Robert was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in August of 1959 and returned home to the farm.  On September 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Arlene Wollum at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. They made their home in Marble Township, Lincoln County, MN where they farmed until retiring in 1998. Following their retirement, they moved into Canby and also enjoyed spending many winters in Mission, Texas.

Robert passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 26 days.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canby where he served as an Elder. Robert was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #147 in Canby, the Area Shrine Club and Zuhrah Shrine of Minneapolis. Robert enjoyed working on tractors and was a member of the Buffalo Ridge Two Cylinder Club. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.

Grateful for having shared Robert’s life are his wife, Arlene Briggs, Canby, MN; sister, Edith Carey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
