The funeral service for Patricia “Pat” Schmidt, 78, of Marshall, will be Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A luncheon will follow the service at the remembrance center.
Patricia “Pat” (Van Moer) Schmidt was born on November 15, 1944, to Les and Joy (Anderson) Van Moer in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1962. In 1966, Pat was united in marriage, and to this union was born two daughters, Totie and Gretchen. Pat worked in the field of human services as an advocate for abused women and children and as a home health aide. She was a court appointed Guardian Ad Litem for Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, and Redwood counties. She was a member of the Lyon County child placement review team and the Lyon County child protection team. Pat completed an undergraduate degree at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and a graduate degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. She was employed at Project Tournabout as the coordinator of family programs and other various positions in the organization for 28 years. For over 40 years, Pat’s favorite haunt was Hardee’s. Pat died on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at her residence in Marshall. She is survived by her daughters Totie (Doug) DeVlaminck of Minneota and Gretchen (Dan) Hidalgo of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Alicia, Andrew, Avery, Sydney, and Caitlyn; five siblings, Jim (Donna) Van Moer, Connie Palmer, Sharon Van Moer, Denise (Charlie) Belton, and Mark (Sharon) Van Moer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
