PORTER – The name of the man that died in a grain bin accident has been released by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office. The accident happened at a farm site northeast of Porter on June 20th. 

When first responders arrived, they found one of the victims, a 62-year-old male, had freed himself from the grain bin, however a man, now identified as 26-year-old Jonah C. Dovre of Porter, was still trapped inside. Emergency responders removed grain from the bin for an hour before finding Dovre. Life-saving efforts were performed on Dovre but were not successful. Jonah C. Dovre, age 26, of Porter, MN formerly of Cottonwood, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at his farm near Porter.

The 62-year-old male was transported to the Sanford Canby Hospital and later released. A rescue personnel member was also transported to the Sanford Canby Hospital with heat-related injuries. 

Assistance was provided by Porter Fire and First Responders, Canby Fire and Sanford Canby Ambulance, Marshall Fire Department Technical Rescue, Renville County Technical Rescue, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, MN State Patrol, and North Air Care.
