MARSHALL – The Marshall Fire Department responded to a report of an apartment fire Saturday evening. At approximately 10:44 Saturday evening, dispatch received a call reporting a fire at an apartment in the 100 block of Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive. When fire crews arrived, they found a single apartment fully engulfed in smoke and worked quickly to eliminate the blaze in approximately 22 minutes. There was some concern about debris from the fire causing issues in the neighborhood, so the Casey’s convenience store was evacuated for a couple hours.
Fire crews stayed on scene until early Sunday to work on hot spots and mitigate the smoke in the apartment. No injuries were reported. The unit where the fire originated from was deemed a total loss, along with significant damage to the apartment complex attic and smoke and water damage to other units.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Marshall Fire Department was assisted by the Ghent Fire Department, Cottonwood Fire Department, and Marshall North Ambulance.
