SAINT PAUL – Minnesota’s snowplows have new names for the winter. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced the eight winning names in its annual Name a Snowplow contest, with “We’re Off To See The Blizzard” and “Anthony Sledwards” among the top picks. 

Governor Tim Walz and MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger revealed the winners, chosen from nearly 23,500 votes. The contest highlights both the creativity of Minnesotans and the work of the state’s 1,600 snowplow drivers. 

Winning Names and Their Districts: 

  • We’re Off To See The Blizzard – Southwest Minnesota 
  • Snowtorious B.I.G. – West Central Minnesota 
  • Plowabunga! – Southeast Minnesota 
  • Anthony Sledwards – Twin Cities 
  • You’re Welcome – Northwest Minnesota 
  • Don’tcha Snow – Central Minnesota 
  • Skol Plow – Northeast Minnesota 
  • I Came, I Thaw, I Conquered – South Central Minnesota 

“This contest is a fun tradition that also reminds us to slow down and give plows space,” said Commissioner Daubenberger. 

Now in its fifth year, the contest received over 7,300 submissions. MnDOT has now named 44 plows statewide, including past favorites like Plowy McPlowFace, Betty Whiteout, and Taylor Drift.
