Michael Watterson, age 59 of Redwood Falls, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 2, 2026 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Lower Sioux Rec Center. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and continue until the time of services on Saturday. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mike was born May 25, 1966 to Charles and Lydia (Arredondo) Watterson in St. Paul and was baptized at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church on the Lower Sioux Reservation. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1984. Mike served in the US Navy on the USS George Philip from 1985 to 1987 and joined the reserves until 1992 when he received his honorable discharge. Mike was stationed in Antarctica as a firefighter and served in Operation Deep Freeze. After his service, Mike returned to Duluth and later moved to Prairie Island, working for the Indian Community as Property Director. His daughter Amanda was born there in 1994. Mike later moved to Redwood Falls and became Property Director at the Lower Sioux Community. His daughter Shaylee was born in 2007. He took great pride in raising his daughters. Mike had played football in his younger years and remained a football fan all his life, SKOL! He also played on church league softball and enjoyed watching sporting events, golf and Nascar racing. Hunting and fishing were his passions.
Mike is survived by his daughters: Amanda (Jacob) Mundell of Superior, WI, & Shaylee Watterson of Redwood Falls; grandson Gunnar Mundell; mother Lydia Conito of Lower Sioux; siblings: Chip (Gail) Watterson of Redwood Falls, Juliet (Jay) Rudie of Deerwood & Antonia Watterson of Lower Sioux; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives & friends. He is preceded in death by his father Charles, nephew Isaac, baby sister Andrea and grandparents Leo and Elizabeth Arredondo.
