MARSHALL – The Marshall Sounds of Summer festival kicks off today, offering four days of events and entertainment.
Today’s activities include the Friends of the Library Book Sale from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Marshall Lyon County Library (MLCL) and a drive-in movie screening of The Last Unicorn at 8:30 PM in the MLCL parking lot. The Lyon County Relay For Life begins at 5 PM on the festival grounds, featuring food vendors, a chili cook-off, SINGO, and live music by Trina Thomas. The evening concludes with a candlelit lap during a dusk ceremony.
Friday’s schedule includes the library book sale, the Marshall Amateur Hockey Association’s Golf Scramble from 10 AM to 2 PM, and a Family Fun Night at the festival grounds starting at 4 PM. Highlights include performances by South Dakota Ariel & Arts at 6 PM and The White Keys from 7 PM to 9:30 PM, alongside the groundbreaking of the new Marshall Aquatic Center at 6 PM.
Saturday starts with the Marshall Farmers Market at 7:30 AM and the Rotary Pancake Breakfast from 8 AM to noon. The Grand Festival Parade begins at 4 PM, followed by evening performances by Hope Rasmussen, Broken Oak Band, Whiskey Rich, and PopROCKS! lasting until 12:30 AM. The Rotary River Duck Races are scheduled for 6:30 PM, and the Little Peddlers Miniature Tractor Pull takes place at 7:30 PM.
The festival concludes on Sunday with a Community Praise Service at 10 AM in Liberty Park and a Sounds of Summer Cycling Event at noon, followed by the final MASC Annual Variety Show at 7 PM.
