MARSHALL— A Marshall business owner is facing six felony charges for allegedly wrongfully obtaining medical assistance. 55-year-old Thomas Scott Pearcy appeared via Zoom in Lyon County District Court on May 14.
A criminal complaint filed in April alleges Pearcy failed to report all sources of income on medical assistance applications between 2019 and 2025. Investigators say this resulted in approximately $92,000 in overpaid benefits.
Pearcy, the former owner of the Gambler bar in Marshall, was reportedly involved in several business ventures after selling the establishment in 2023. The complaint states he received self-employment income and owned multiple rental properties. He was also affiliated with a snow removal business and a development company in Balaton.
An investigation by Southwest Health and Human Services and Marshall Police began in March. Authorities allege Pearcy’s reported income on assistance renewal forms was significantly lower than figures from the Minnesota Department of Revenue. County property records show multiple properties tied to Pearcy-owned businesses were purchased between 2019 and 2023.
Bail was set at $93,000, which Pearcy has paid. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 10.
