PORTER – One person has died and another injured in a grain bin incident northeast of Porter, according to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 9:28 Tuesday morning, dispatch received a call reporting two individuals were trapped in a grain bin.
When first responders arrived, they found one of the victims, a 62-year-old male, had freed himself from the grain bin, however a 27-year-old male was still trapped inside. Rescue personnel worked for about an hour removing the grain from the bin before the 27-year-old male was located and removed from inside the bin.
Life-saving efforts were performed on the 26-year-old male (original press release stated 27 years old) but were not successful. The 62-year-old male was transported to the Sanford Canby Hospital and later released. A rescue personnel member was also transported to the Sanford Canby Hospital with heat-related injuries.
Assistance was provided by Porter Fire and First Responders, Canby Fire and Sanford Canby Ambulance, Marshall Fire Department Technical Rescue, Renville County Technical Rescue, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, MN State Patrol, and North Air Care.
