Lydia Emma (McCoy) Sik was born on April l, 1922 in Chippewa County to Archie and Lena (Kemp) McCoy. She grew up in Montevideo, MN and attended country school until the 8th grade. Afterwards, she did various jobs including housekeeping, nanny, and worked in a cafe. During this time, she met Martin, and they started dating. Lydia would share her favorite story of meeting Martin. When she met Martin, she was with two other girls and Martin was with his brother and a cousin. Martin pointed to Lydia and told his brother and cousin that the fat one in the middle was the one he was going to marry. This is exactly what happened. Prior to their wedding, Lydia received the sacrament of baptism and confirmation. On June 30, 1941 they were married at St. John Cantius Church, Wilno MN. In 1942 when Martin went into the army to serve his country, Lydia moved back home to Montevideo and lived with her family. During this time, their son, Dennis, was born. After the war was over and Martin came home, they moved to a farm near Hendricks, MN. During this time, Lydia had three more children: David, Linda, and Marvin. Lydia was an amazing wife and mother. While they lived on the farm, she was busy raising their children, maintaining their household, and helping Martin whenever she could. In 1957, they sold their farm and purchased the Marble Store and Salvage Yard. Lydia managed the Marble Store in addition to raising their family, maintaining their household, and assisting Martin with the Salvage Yard. In 1980, they retired and moved to Canby, MN. During this time, Lydia enjoyed working part-time with Green Thumb, Prairie 5, and volunteering at the Canby Nursing Home. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing cards. Lydia loved traveling with Martin in their motor home whether it was to visit family and friends or to go on a fishing trip. There were many friends and family members that learned how to filet fish under the guidance of both Lydia and Martin. She also loved spoiling their dogs especially Lucky and everyone knew this because they would go through a fast food drive-in to get a dish of ice cream and their dogs would always go everywhere with them. In the spare time she found, she loved visiting family and spending time with her grandchildren. Lydia was also an active member of her church circle, the Eagles Club, and the 109 VFW Auxiliary Club (Gary SD). In 2011, they moved into the Hendricks Nursing Home.
Lydia went to join the love of her life, Martin, in the Lord’s house on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the age of 101 years, 4 months and 25 days.
