Lorraine Doris Roth was born on August 29, 1931, on a farm in Moody County, about 11 miles south of Brookings, South Dakota.  She was the daughter of Frank and Esther (Johnson) Roth.  Lorraine was very proud to be called a farmer’s daughter and being the oldest child, she talked about doing a lot of outdoor chores. She attended Durland Elementary School and Egan High School, graduating with the class of 1949.  After high school, Lorraine worked as an Administrative Assistant in the math department at South Dakota State for two years.  She graduated college four years later with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.  While in college at an after-game dance, she met John E. Trei.  They were married on June 10, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Brookings, South Dakota, and then they both worked one year as teachers in Cosmos, Minnesota. Lorraine enjoyed being a homemaker and always encouraged her kids to do their best.  Family was very important to her; John and Lorraine raised three children: Marcia, Brian, and Steve.  Lorraine put her family first and always enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as her family grew.  She will always be remembered for her cookies as well as her apple and cherry pies.  Lorraine was a perfectionist at everything she did – evident in her hobbies of ceramics, scrapbooking, gardening, sewing, and she also enjoyed genealogy and traveling.

Lorraine Trei died peacefully at her daughter’s home in McKinney, Texas, on January 30, 2023.  She has reached the age of 91 years, 5 months, and one day.  Blessed be her memory.

Grateful for having shared her life with her three children; Marcia (Bob) Simon, Brian (Renee) Trei, Steven (Terri) Trei; 7 grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Simon, Mike (Jessica) Simon, Alex (Anna Claire) Trei, Kaitlyn Trei, Sydney Trei, Mallory Trei, and Nick Trei; 3 great-grandchildren, Josh Simon, Zach Simon, Cole Simon; as well as a host of other family and friends.  Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John E. Trei; parents, Frank and Esther Roth; sisters, Margaret Hempel, Dorothy Bauder; and a brother, Joe Roth.
