MOORHEAD (KMHL) – Members of the Senate’s capital investment committee are finishing up their three-day tour of northwest Minnesota.

Lawmakers are looking at projects that are requesting state bonding dollars in this year’s bonding bill.

Sen. Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) is one of the senators on the tour. He says there are more than $5 billion in bonding requests received by lawmakers already.

“I think we’re at like $5.3 billion worth of requests,” said Dahms. “That probably involves between 400 and 500 requests.”

He expects the number to grow as the legislative session gets closer and even starts. So he says lawmakers are starting to look at the projects to get a better idea of the impacts they have on their local communities and regions.

“We try and cover the entire state and look at projects specific to the regions we’re in,” said Dahms. “Even small projects we may take a look at a couple of them on every tour to get an idea of the impact it has on communities.”

Dahms says they will also have tours of both southwest and southeast Minnesota this fall.
