Jerold “Jerry” Buchert, age 87, of Russell, Minnesota, died on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center in Luverne, Minnesota.  Due to expected weather, Memorial Services are now at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota. Military Honors will follow at the funeral home.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, also at Hamilton Funeral Home.  Private Interment will be held at a later date in the Russell Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial donations to the Russell Cemetery Association.  Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.

Jerold Keith Buchert was born on February 16, 1936, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Clifford and Ruth (Halstead) Buchert. He grew up and received his education in Russell, Minnesota. While in school he was involved with the Boy Scouts Troop 83, attaining the rank of Star Scout.  Jerry was a hard worker in his younger years at home, doing odd jobs for others and helping out on area farms. He graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1955. Jerry then served in the U.S. Navy for four years before being honorably discharged in March of 1959. During his service, Jerry primarily served on a supply ship and was able to visit many different countries. Shortly after his discharge he met, and courted Ms. JoAnn C. Meyer.  On May 7, 1960, Jerry married the love of his life in Marshall. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Cindy, and a son, Mark. The family made their home in Marshall for a short time before moving to Colorado for a year. They then moved back to Minnesota and settled in Russell. Jerry was a member of the Russell Grace Lutheran Church, and then the Grace First Parish. Jerry looked after his community, he joined the Police Reserve part time and did patrol duty for a number of years before attending night classes at Canby VoTech to become a police officer.  While Jerry helped the Russell area Police for approximately 20 years, he also worked his daytime job for 38 years as office manager, dispatcher, and batch man for the Deutz and Crow Concrete plant and then the name changed to Bornhoft Concrete in Marshall.  Jerry retired when he was 62 years old due to his heart health.  While living in Marshall, Jerry was a faithful member of the Marshall Jaycees and then after moving to Russell, he became a member of the Russell Lions Club, Masons, and the Russell American Legion Post 460. Jerry intentionally made time for his other enjoyments in life including fishing, hunting, flower gardening, and traveling.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, JoAnn Buchert of Russell; daughter, Cindy Buchert of Marshall; son, Mark Buchert of Russell; granddaughters, Rosann Buchert (fiancé Jeff) of Jacksonville, FL, Carmen Buchert (fiancé Brian) of Marshall; great-grandsons, Kai of Jacksonville, FL, Eddie of Hanley Falls; brothers, Kenneth (and Sue) Buchert of Mankato, Bryan (and Deb) Buchert of Russell, Bruce (and Rita) Buchert of Russell; sisters, Nyla Buchert of Tyler, Myra Morash of Russell, Pat (and Dan) Tavierne of Russell, brother-in-law, Hal Meyer of Lynd; sister-in-law, Sharon Buchert of Albany, OR; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; 3 sisters, Beverly Studemann, Susan Buchert, Karen Daniels, brother, Curt Buchert; nieces, Cathy Buchert, Bonnie King, Charlotte Johnson, Kristi Meyer; nephews, Michael Sovell, Ryan VanLerberghe, Greg Buchert, Michael Daniels, James Daniels; sister-in-law, Pam Meyer, brothers-in-law, Frenchie Morash, Orville Studemann, David Daniels; and other aunts and uncles and several cousins.
