Janice Nordmeyer, age 84, of Balaton, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Balaton, Minnesota with visitation taking place one hour prior from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton. Janice’s celebration of life will continue at the Lake Benton Community Center following the burial. The Harquist Funeral Home – Lake Benton Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Janice Laurel Nordmeyer, age 84, of Balaton, MN, passed away February 13, 2023. She was born on October 2, 1938, and lived most of her life in Balaton with her beloved husband Richard. In their later years, they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they found a wonderful community of friends at Val Vista Village. Janice married the love of her life, Richard on December 21, 1963, and for their 50th wedding anniversary in 2013, they renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony on Pililaau beach in Oahu, Hawaii in the presence of their two sons, Kyle and Russ. Janice worked many different jobs throughout her life, including bartending, driving school bus, and working in the school cafeteria. She especially enjoyed driving school bus to speech tournaments. She was a devoted member of United Methodist Church in Balaton. Janice loved the occasional trip to the casino where she enjoyed spending $20 on the nickel slots. She loved getting friends and family together for happy hour, and was fond of reminding them that “it’s five o’clock somewhere!”
Janice is survived by her sons, Kyle (Jerri Phillips) and Russ (Justin); her sister, Cheryl; brother, Royce (Lorna); five grandchildren, Kassondra Valek (Tony), Natasha Sik, Erik Nordmeyer, Gunnar Nordmeyer, and Hannah Myers (Elijah); five great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and her parents, Page and Olga Osborne.
