WILLMAR – A Minnesota Department of Transportation project to stabilize the slope along Highway 14 in Balaton begins next week. A small slide at the south end of Lake Yankton will be repaired and the slope stabilized using riprap and erosion control measures. Work could begin as early as Tuesday, May 30 and will take approximately five days to complete, weather permitting.
One lane of Highway 14 will be closed and a flagging operation in place while crews are working, from sunup to sundown. Drivers can expect short delays. Both lanes will be open during nonworking hours.
A & C Excavating is the contractor, and the project cost is approximately $100,000.
MnDOT asks drivers to slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution. Stay alert; watch for workers and slow-moving equipment. Obey posted speed limits; fine for a work zone violation is $300. Minimize distractions behind the wheel, be patient and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
