Harold “Nic” Nicholesn, age 80, of rural Pipestone, Minnesota, died peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton, Minnesota. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Pipestone Chapel.
Harold “Nic” Dean Nicholesn was born on July 15, 1942 to Terman and Elizabeth (Van Roekel) Nicholsen in Tyler, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm and grew into the farm life of daily chores, caring for the animals and tending to the crops. Other activities he enjoyed in his youth were putting together jigsaw puzzles and creating landscape ornaments out of wood. Nic attended school in Verdi, Minnesota, and graduated from high school in 1961. Following his education Nic began farming full time with his parents. Throughout his life he worked as a hired man for a number of farmers in the area. He appreciated living a simple life. In December 2021, Nic became a resident at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota where he died peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the age of 80.
Nic was a member of the Verdi Methodist Church in Verdi, Minnesota. Nic loved dogs and having them around as his companions.
He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Hans (Linda) Nicholsen of Sanger, Texas; sister-in-law, Sandi Nicholsen of Pipestone, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Deborah Brown, Hans Nicholsen, Jr., Jennifer Nicholsen, Kari Josten, Jeff Backer and Greg Backer; and close friends, Tom Hillard, Leone Meyer and Barb Meyer. He was preceded in death by his father, Terman (November 1978) and mother, Elizabeth (September 2000); and brother, Ralph Nicholsen.
