NEW YORK CITY, NY — Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, has officially accepted CBS’s proposal to debate his Republican opponent, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, on October 1st in New York City. However, as of now, Vance has not responded to the debate invitation.

The anticipated debate was a focal point during a recent campaign event in Philadelphia, where Vice President Kamala Harris formally introduced Walz as her running mate. In his remarks, Walz took a direct jab at Vance, saying, “I can’t wait to debate the guy – that is, if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up.”

The tension between the two candidates has been escalating, particularly over Walz’s military service record. Vance has accused Walz of dropping out of the Army when he was called to serve in Iraq. Walz, who served in the National Guard for 24 years, countered by stating that he left the Guard to answer a different call of duty—serving his country in Congress.

Vance, a former U.S. Marine who served in Iraq, responded on Tuesday, saying he’s “happy to discuss more in a debate” regarding Walz’s military service. The exchange has set the stage for what could be a contentious debate, should Vance agree to participate.
