SUMMARY:Red Cross Blood Drive-Tyler
DESCRIPTION:Community Blood Bank is launching an urgent appeal for blood donations to ensure local patients receive the lifesaving care they need. While seasonal activities and travel plans increase during the warmer months\, blood donations typically decline\, creating potential shortages for area hospitals. \n  \nR.T.R. High School will host a community blood drive on Tuesday\, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donors can schedule a donation appointment by logging onto cbblifeblood.org\, selecting “events”\, and choosing April 1st or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. All those who donate will receive a $15 D.Q. gift card as a thank you gift. \n  \nWhen donors give blood with Community Blood Bank\, their donation stays local\, directly supporting patients in their own community. This local connection ensures that each donation has maximum impact on neighbors\, friends\, and family members who may need transfusions. \n  \n“Spring brings a renewed sense of hope\, but it also presents unique challenges for our blood supply\,” said Ken Versteeg\, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank. “As our community members become busier with outdoor activities and travel\, we often see a decline in donations. The need for blood remains constant year-round\, with donations supporting everything from emergency trauma care to ongoing treatments for cancer and chronic illnesses. All blood types are needed\, with particular demand.” \n  \nDonors must be at least 16 years old (16 year old consent form found at cbblifeblood.org)\, weigh 110 lbs. or more\, and be in good general health. Please bring an I.D. with you. It is recommended to eat and drink fluid prior to donating. Please avoid caffeinated drinks until after your donation. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to Avera Tyler Hospital. \n  \n  \nIf you are 17 years of age\, 16 with parental consent\, in good health\, and weigh at least 110 pounds you’re eligible to give. \nMake your appointment to donate by heading to  www.redcrossblood.org or give them a call @1-800-RED CROSS.

SUMMARY:MN Irrigator Program-Becker
DESCRIPTION:The University of Minnesota Extension will be offering the Minnesota Irrigator Program at the Sherburne History Center in Becker\, MN April 2\, 9 and 16. \nOver the past few years\, efficient agricultural irrigation has become a hot topic in Minnesota. In regions with sandy soil and limited precipitation\, irrigation is a key component of production agriculture. Matching irrigation with crop water use has become more important to maintain profit and maximize groundwater resources. An understanding of the plant-water-soil relationship\, proper irrigation system maintenance\, and use of irrigation scheduling are just some of the tools irrigators use for cost-effective crop production. If you want to improve your irrigation\, use efficiency\, the University of Minnesota Extension is offering the Minnesota Irrigator Program (MIP) to provide you with the information you need to make irrigation decisions in 2025. \nThis 3-day event will be held in person at the Sherburne History Center at 10775 27th Ave SE Becker\, MN 55308 on April 2\, 9 and 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A light breakfast and a warm lunch will be provided. Programming will include a discussion of the basics of irrigation\, irrigation systems\, how to use soil moisture sensors on your farm\, irrigation scheduling\, and special topics like variable rate irrigation and remote sensing. \nIn addition to learning about the most effective irrigation management\, MIP attendance is one of the requirements to attain the Irrigation Endorsement of the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP). To achieve certification\, participants need to attend all three days of the course. Certified farms will receive the endorsement with proof of MIP attendance and the adoption of a new irrigation practice or scheduling method on-farm. Tuition reimbursement is also available for MAWQCP farms. Continuing education credits (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisers will also be offered for this program. \nThe University of Minnesota Extension will be offering this program at rotating locations throughout the state in the coming years. Participation is capped at 25 individuals (20 growers and 5 agency staff)\, so be sure to register today! The cost of this 3-day program is $75. Light breakfast and lunch are provided. For more information and to register\, go to www.extension.umn.edu/courses-and-events/minnesota-irrigator-program. \n— \nFor more news from U of M Extension\, visit www.extension.umn.edu/news or contact Extension Communications at extnews@umn.edu. University of Minnesota Extension is an equal opportunity educator and employer.
