SUMMARY:Upcoming exhibit at the SMAC ART GALLERY: Doris Stands-Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Southwest Minnesota Arts Council announces \nGallery Exhibit & Two Artist Receptions \nfeaturing the artwork of \nDORIS STANDS \n  \nExhibit runs September 11 – October 24\, 2025 \nCheck out this exhibit either in-person or virtually* \nThe SMAC GALLERY is located at 509 West Main Street\, Marshall \nRegular office hours: Monday – Friday 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm \n\n  \nMeet Doris \nMy art work is cultural and is rooted in Native American traditional art forms. Horse regalia has been a part of Dakota history for many generations\, it is re-emerging amongst the horse nation in Indian Country. I am proud to be a part of the revitalization of this amazing art form. \n  \nI have created traditional horse regalia in life size\, wearable by live horses and a mini version for display. I have created many traditional dance regalia outfits over the years for my family and my grandchildren. I have created ribbon skirts and shirts worn for ceremony and honoring events. I have also made star quilts for ceremony and honoring/memorial events. I have participated in art displays in the community and for Lower Sioux where I am an enrolled member. I have also facilitated a youth horse regalia teaching. \n  \n*Doris is also the Executive Director of Dakota Wicohan\, an organization whose mission is “to revitalize Dakota as a living language\, and through it\, transmit Dakota lifeways to future generations.” \n  \n  \nJoin an IN-PERSON artist reception on \nThursday\, September 11\, 2025 \nfrom 5-7pm \nat the SMAC Gallery\, 509 West Main Street\, Marshall \n  \nJoin a VIRTUAL artist talk via Zoom on \nThursday\, October 9\, 2025 \nat 5:30 pm. \n  \nPlease email SMAC staff [info@swmnarts.org] for the ZOOM link to join this Artist Talk. \n  \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Funding provided by the McKnight Foundation. Minnesota thrives when its artists thrive. The McKnight Foundation supports working artists to create and contribute to vibrant communities. \nSouthwest Minnesota Arts Council\n509 West Main Street\,\nMarshall\, MN 56258\n507-537-1471

SUMMARY:Looney Lutherans at First Lutheran-Marshall
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us MONDAY SEPTEMBER 22 at 7:00pm in First Lutheran’s Sanctuary!! \nThe Looney Lutherans are a trio of wacky gals who use music\, comedy and some help from the audience to share their age-old wisdom for living a long\, happy life in a humorous Lutheran way. People of all ages will enjoy this! The original material is musical\, interactive and family friendly — and you don’t have to be Lutheran to love it! So\, Invite your friends! And tell the community! \nYOUNG(ish) AT HEART: Still Looney after all these years …. Getting older can be a literal “pain in the neck”\, but laughter is good medicine! Segments may include What’s In Your Lunchbox? (hosted by your favorite luncheon meat); musical advice for dealing with aches and pains; and some creative tips for keeping fit—because Jello isn’t the only thing that jiggles. \nThis event is another fun celebration of our 100th Anniversary! There will be no charge for the show. We will be taking a free will offering.
