SUMMARY:Community Blood Drive-Hendricks
DESCRIPTION:Hendricks Community Hospital partners with Community Blood Bank to host a community blood drive on Monday\, May 18 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the bloodmobile located at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church (501 E. Garfield St.\, Hendricks\, MN). With Memorial Day weekend approaching\, blood supplies face increased pressure\, and the community’s generosity is urgently needed. Donors can schedule a donation time by logging into www.cbblifeblood.org\, selecting “Donate Now”\, “Blood Drive Calendar”\, and select either May 18th call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. \nThe need for a stable blood supply is an ongoing challenge\, one that becomes especially critical as holiday travel and outdoor activities rise during Memorial Day weekend. Accidents\, surgeries\, and medical emergencies do not pause for holidays\, and local hospitals and trauma centers depend on a steady\, pre-stocked supply of donated blood to meet increased demand. \n“Giving blood is one of the most impactful things a person can do for their community\,” said Ken Versteeg\, Executive Director\, Community Blood Bank. “We are honored to partner with Hendricks Community Hospital\, and making it easy for our neighbors to step up and help save lives right here in Hendricks.” \nMost healthy adults are eligible to donate blood. Donors should be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states)\, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds\, and be in good general health. Donors are encouraged to drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious meal before arriving. Valid photo identification is required. \nOne donation can save up to three lives. Community Blood Bank encourages all eligible community members to roll up their sleeves\, give the gift of life\, and enjoy a sweet reward. Together\, we can ensure that those in need at Hendricks Community Hospital\, friends\, family\, neighbors\, and community members have the blood they need this Memorial Day weekend and beyond.

SUMMARY:SMAC Features the Photography of JOHN SALGADO MALDONADO "Willmar\, What comes to your mind?"-Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Southwest Minnesota Arts Council announces \nGallery Exhibit & Two Artist Receptions \nfeaturing \nthe photography of \n\n\nJOHN SALGADO MALDONADO \n“Willmar\, What comes to your mind?” \nExhibit runs May 7 – June 26\, 2026 \nCheck out this exhibit either in-person or virtually* \nThe SMAC GALLERY is located at 509 West Main Street\, Marshall \nRegular office hours: Monday – Friday 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm \nWillmar\, What comes to your mind?! This exhibition is a critical view to our society\, to our way of thinking about variety\, and diversity\, a sort of awareness of what we have been taught to value and what’s not. This exhibition calls out the viewer to a self reflection through a “cognitive dissonance”. \n  \nGallery /Galería\nHow important is it to have different options\, perspectives\, and experiences as a human being? Have you thought about how much you value diversity or variety in your daily life? \nTruth is we do value diversity in different measures\, on a daily basis\, and it seems that we enjoy life like this; the more diverse\, the richer experiences we have. \n  \nWhen we look at gardens\, creativity gives way to diversity and vice versa. When we experiences on our bodies and skin the nature and all seasons\, when in simple activities\, like going to the grocery store\, finding colors and shapes (options) in most of the items\, we experience diversity…and we appreciate it. \nSo the question – reflection comes to the mind…Why is so hard with human beings? To embrace the otherness? Not just tolerating\, or accepting\, but even furthermore\, seeking it\, because as we experience in our daily life\, this is richer in that way. And therein lies the cognitive dissonance. \n  \n  \nJoin an IN-PERSON artist reception on \nThursday\, May 7\, 2026 \nfrom 5-7pm \nat the SMAC Gallery\, 509 West Main Street\, Marshall \n  \n*Enjoy community drumming led by\nPURPOSE ARTISANS\nduring this reception* \nJoin a VIRTUAL artist talk via Zoom on \nThursday\, June 11 2026 \nat 5:30 pm. \n  \nPlease email SMAC staff [info@swmnarts.org] for the ZOOM link to join this Artist Talk. \n  \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
